Show Notes:

This is part 2, a continuation from the last episode. We're talking about the stages a Rebel Business goes through. Here are the stages as I think about them:

Create stage: this is where you create your business beyond the therapy room.

Grow stage: this is where your business starts making a real income.

Expand stage. this is where you really hit your stride.

Limitless Growth stage: this is where you grow your empire to 7 figures and beyond.

For each stage, I'll talk about the biggest internal change that can happen, what we most need to do and put in place during this stage, and what can go wrong. I'll also tell you what programs I've got to help you through the different stages.

Last time I talked about the first stage, which I call the CREATE stage. and today I'll take us through the rest.

If you haven't heard part 1 yet, you should go back right now and start there.

Stage 2: Grow

In this stage, you go from having an offer that you've provided once to having a new iteration of your offer.

You build your email list and your audience to the point where you can sell consistently.

You get known for what you do.

This is the stage where you might put in the most hours per week.

By this stage, I was taking my business more seriously. I took my needs more seriously and was willing to invest in my business and set aside time consistently. I had a conversation with a colleague who was further along in their business, and when I got off the phone, I wrote down some notes. I now see them as kind of a time capsule:

  • I need to be part of a mastermind group where people will encourage me to go bigger.

  • I need to do some major list building.

  • I need a better system for onboarding and client management.

  • I need to start assuming there are plenty of folks to work with.

  • I need to schedule time every week to reach out to a colleague or learn something new.

If you want to hear an episode with someone talking about their grow stage experiences, one to check out is episode 97 with Maddi Rundle.

Biggest Internal Changes:

  • Growing patience and resilience.

  • Growing your capacity to do the work consistently rather than following new shiny objects.

  • Being willing to play bigger without feeling ready.

  • Developing your voice.

What You Need To Do To Get Through This Stage:

  • Reiterate your offer.

  • Develop your website, grow your email list, and create new paths to help people find you AND/OR double down on the paths that are already working.

  • Have more conversations with people, especially people going through your program.

  • Join a mastermind or at least find a business bestie who is as invested as you are, preferably both.

  • Return to your why and expand it.

  • Increase the amount of time you're setting aside.

  • Invest in better systems and tech. This is about building your capacity to help more people more efficiently.

  • Perhaps hire someone to help you with things that take a lot of time and don't put you into your zone of genius.

  • Find bookkeeping systems that hold our financial practices well.

What Can Go Wrong:

  • Starting something new before you've really established and iterated that first offer a bunch of times can send you right back into that create stage. That doesn't allow you to grow. Don't scratch what you have. Reiterate.

  • If you start something new at this or really any stage, consider just offering it to people you have already served.

What I've got for you at this stage is my Rebel Therapist Mastermind Program. If you've already offered your pilot program, people loved it, and you're ready to step fully into growth, that's your program. In the past, folks only joined the mastermind after they'd completed Create Your Program, but if you're already in the Grow stage and you haven't been through the create program, contact us.

Rebel Therapist Mastermind is 6 months of 1:1 and small group coaching to support you in growing your Rebel Business. That means growing your audience, serving more people, building your capacity, working through mindset issues, and hitting your stride.

Stage 3: Expand

Here's where you take your established business and you double or triple your income. Or more. You might add programs, or you might just grow the program that's already working. You might expand at this point to serving your people at more points along their journey. You might decide to close your private practice if you've got one.

Your business is working well. You're making a living.

This is the stage I'm in now. If you want to hear an episode with someone else in this stage, you might check out episode 106 with Jacquette Timmons.

Biggest Internal Changes:

  • Not holding ourselves back from success.

  • Believing it doesn't have to always be a struggle.

  • Allowing ourselves to dream into what we really want and are capable of rather than settling for what we have.

  • Feeling OK about saying NO to opportunities.

What You Need To Do To Get Through This Stage:

  • Get among business owners who are as driven as you are. Find a mastermind and a business bestie.

  • Get ideas from lots of people, but create our OWN path.

  • Perhaps cut back on the number of hours you're working and spend more of your time doing what's MOST valuable.

  • Hire someone to help you with at least one big part of your business.

  • Make sure your financial practices are working great, or you're gonna leak money.

What Can Go Wrong:

  • NOT choosing what success means to you.

  • Focusing on too many things at once.

  • Saying yes to everything.

What I've got for folks at this stage is again my Rebel Therapist Mastermind. Get in touch with us if you're in the expand stage and you want 1:1 support from me and support and accountability from a group of smart and driven peers.

Stage 4: Limitless Growth

This is where you grow your business up to and past 7 figures and take on a different role within your business.

Right now I'm not at this stage, and I'm not interested in stepping towards this stage. I really like the lean and profitable business we've got going on. I love being the main provider with my participants and having a high-touch relationship with everyone I'm serving. But I totally don't rule it out! My desire will help guide that just like it's guided me here so far.

If I decide to step into that next stage, I'll take you with me for the ride. Since I'm not doing that now, I won't pretend to be an expert on it.

One episode I'll recommend if you'd like to hear from an entrepreneur in this stage is episode 102 with Tara McMullin.

I would love to see you at my free online workshop: Create Your Program Beyond The Therapy Room. Shave a bunch of time off of your learning curve so you can get past the first stage much faster and set yourself up for success in the next stages. It's coming up on Wednesday, March 4th, 2020. You CAN get a replay for a short time if you sign up.
